Aside from the Jennifers, producer is hoping to team his global artist Mohombi with Lil Wayne on a new track.
RedOne is a busy man these days. He’s jet-setting across the globe, working on tracks with Lady Gaga for ARTPOP and nabbing studio time with two of the music industry’s biggest Jennifers.
The producer told MTV News that he’s working on smashes for Jennifer Hudson and Jennifer Lopez with one motto in mind: Go big or go home.
“I’m the executive producer of [Lopez’s] album, and we already have songs that are just incredible. It’s just amazing. It’s mixed [styles]. It’s everything about Jennifer Lopez,” he told MTV News about once again creating tunes for the singer/actress.
They’ve already had success with songs like “On the Floor,” and they plan to build on those triumphs for this next project. “It’s not one thing; it’s everything you experience,” he said. “It’s a very special album. It feels like this album, to us, has to have everything about her, not just one thing. You’re going to have all the sides, kind of urban/hip-hop and the commercial, like the way she did with Ja Rule. It’s everything you love about her [including] the dance, the rhythmic, the Latin.”
While he’s worked with Lopez before, this marks the first time RedOne will record with the Grammy-winning Hudson. “I’m excited about it. To me, like, I’m working right now [and] I’m working on some ideas for her. … I think I’m very excited because I think it’s fresh, something totally fresh for me.
“I think it’s going to be the most incredible thing. I know music, and I adapt to the art,” he added of moving outside of the dance world for the project. “It’s very important to focus on that. And [with the] songwriting aspect, I think I know how she sounds on the radio. I think I know what people want to hear. I think I know what the artist wants. And the combination of all of that, you can never go wrong.”
As if that weren’t enough to keep him busy, RedOne has also partnered with Cash Money Records to promote his global artist Mohombi.
“I’m excited about my artist Mohombi, and we’ve partnered with Cash Money. We’re shooting a video in November featuring Lil Wayne. I don’t want to say Lil Wayne yet — it’s not confirmed — anyway, him or someone like that,” he said. “We’re partnered. We said, ‘Let’s find some artists that we can partner together.’ It just feels good [to work with Cash Money], because I love them. We have a lot of respect for each other. We’ve been always supporting each other. It’s good to bring those two worlds [together]. Music brings people together.”
